What should I wear skiing?
Three layers: a thermal base layer top and bottom, a warm mid layer such as a fleece, and a waterproof, breathable ski jacket and ski pants. Add ski socks (one pair, not two), waterproof gloves, a helmet or hat, a neck warmer and goggles. Avoid cotton against the skin.
Should I rent or bring ski equipment?
For one or two weeks a year, renting skis, boots and a helmet at the resort is cheaper than airline sports-equipment fees and saves carrying them. Bring your own boots if you ski often, since fit matters most there. Goggles, gloves and clothing are always worth bringing.
What do people forget on ski trips?
High-SPF sunscreen and lip protection (the sun is stronger at altitude), a swimsuit for the hotel spa, slippers for the chalet, a power bank because cold drains phone batteries, and painkillers for the second-day legs.
